CNC-ABS

ABS CNC parts are high-strength, lightweight, and durable thermoplastic components favored for prototyping and functional applications, such as automotive, electronics, and consumer goods. They offer excellent impact resistance, high dimensional stability, easy machinability, and can be finished with matte or polished textures.

 Key Characteristics & Advantages

  •  Mechanical Strength: High impact resistance and durability, making them suitable for functional parts.

  • Machinability: ABS is easy to machine, allowing for complex geometries with excellent dimensional stability.

  • Cost-Effective: Low cost and efficient production compared to other materials.

  • Versatile Surface Finishes: Can be easily painted, polished, or plated.

  • Thermal/Chemical Stability: Performs well in moderate temperatures (typically -20°C to 80°C) and resists many acids and oils.

  • Lightweight: Provides high strength-to-density ratios.

Common Applications

  • Automotive Components: Consoles, dashboards, and dashboards interior components.

  • Electronic Housings: Computer components, monitor housing, and keyboard parts.

  • Industrial Components: Prototypes, jigs, and fixtures.

  • Consumer Goods: Toys, furniture components, and casings.

ABS CNC Machining Tips

  • Tooling & Speed: Requires sharp tools, with typical milling speeds suited to thermoplastic characteristics.

  • Work Holding: Due to its potential to flex, secure clamping or strong vacuum beds are recommended.

  • Surface Treatment: Can be polished or vapor-smoothed to remove tool marks.

Limitations

  •  UV Sensitivity: Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause degradation.

  •  Thermal Limits: Not suitable for high-temperature applications (weakens above 80°C).

  • Chemical Exposure: Sensitive to some solvents, including acetone.
